In the last 12 years, since Live Nation and its predecessor started its widespread take over of the concert industry, concert tickets have shot up 82% while the consumer price index has gone up just 17%*.
— A JamUSA.com mail I got today was all worked up about the Ticketmaster/LiveNation merger stuff and included this stat. I was at once outraged and curious. The ‘*’ was to a footnote that explained the state came from a Princeton study. So I looked it up. And it’s an interesting read. And maybe somewhat less alarmist and somewhat more real and look how easy that was and totally the internet won me over today. Then tomorrow some dude will build a mashup site of Strib comments and Twitter trending topics and I’ll lose faith and hate everything all over again. It’s like the tides this one is.
